I'm a native Jakartan, born and raised.
I have spent half of my 20-something life elsewhere, though, and I'm used to a having a lot of festivals and plays and exhibitions and art shows and many other things happening all around me.
Coming back to Jakarta, I find that all everybody seems to do around here is go to the malls. Don't get me wrong, malls are great and Jakarta probably has some of the biggest, bad-ass-est malls in the world.
But there's only so much time this girl can spend at the mall before it gets old. I miss having other things to do and other places to visit.
Then I dug around and found, to my amazement, that there are other things to do and other places to visit. Jakarta is not just a big cluster of identical malls I thought it was, after all.
The problem is I had to dig around to find out about this stuff.
If, like me, you need an escape from Jakarta's ubiquitous malls, I hope my little website here helps ;)
